Club Background

The SHETLAND SHEEPDOG FANCIERS CLUB (S.S.F.C.) was established in Edmonton in 1968, with a group of seventeen fanciers. Near the end of 1970, the club became a registered Canadian Kennel Club Member Club. The Club currently has a membership of over 50 members, many of which are families.

Any person residing in Alberta may become a member by making an application to the Membership Chairperson who will present it to the Executive for approval. The Membership Application Form may be downloaded from here. Membership dues are $25.00 for a single person or $35.00 for a family per year. All members receive a free subscription to TOONIE TEMPO, the club's monthly newsletter. Memebrship renewals are January 1st each year.

SSFC members have participated in community events, such as the Edmonton Klondike Days Parade, The Silly Summer Parade along Whyte Avenue and surrounding community parades.

Our social activities include a Sheltie Picnic in the summer where SSFC members, friends and guests are invited to bring a potluck dish and their Shelties to a fenced acreage near Edmonton.

A Christmas Party in December again sees members and guests enjoying a wonderful potluck supper as "Santa" greets the children and Shelties!

For years the SSFC has held an Eye Clinic/Health Clinic for all breeds of dogs. As a major fundraiser, it fits our mandate of certifying the eye health of our breeding Shelties.
